Online Log

So today I have a little time to play. I am gonna make an experimental post of it. What am I doing? (kind of) Liveblogging my play:

Log on the anonymous Hunter

  • empty the mailbox of money (52g) and unsold auction stuff (only 3 things).
  • Scan Ah and put up some stuff for sale. Feed pet and then clean up inventory.
  • Reconfigure some ArkInventory Rules. All in all takes about 30 minutes. Didn’t even look for cheap auctions.

Log on Yashima.

  • Transmute Earth->Water for best value gain. Only 14 more Primal Earth. Need more.
  • Chat a bit.
  • Do fishing faily in Terrokar Forest and collect a few herbs (yay a Fel Lotus) for Nether Residue.
  • Finished fishing quest in 5 minutes of fishing.
  • Go up to Skettis to kill a few trees (I am not a tree anymore… I don’t feel bad) and bomb a few eggs. But somebody else is hunting the trees instead I helped a Horde Shaman free a Prisoner and karma made it so I got to free one too. Also no luck fishing up there. Still 20 gold in 14 minutes and a bit more stuff besides.
  • Turned in the fishing quest (meh reward) and chat a bit in the guild while cleaning out the loot from the last half hour and deciding what to sell and what to keep

Log on Priest/Disenchanter

  • Uarghs quick fix the interface. Yay it’s only the new bartender that’s messed up, quick load my profile. and move the priestly bar from the autobar out of the way
  • Cleaning out mailbox and disenchanting all the nice things and wondering wether Planar Essences will be worth as much as the Eternal ones some day?

Now for a break. To be continued.

WoW Diary: Playing when the sun shines?

Usually I am nowadays enjoying our tiny little garden instead of playing when the weather is nice. The weather has been nice the last few days ;)

I’ve done a few dailies with Yashima Wednesday night though and tanked a few trees up in Skettis and fished me some food. I particularly enjoyed the races you can do with the Netherwing when you get to Honored with them. Those are not dailies but rather very unique quests. I wish there would be more unique quests.

I am still selling off most of the stuff I find, like the Shadow Pearl I got for the Fishing daily. So now I have once more made it above the 3k only 1.8k to go if I want to get Thalya her epic flyer.

Lakshmi has made a few levels lately. She finally got both her Third Legs enchanted with Crusader and with Windfury and Stormstrike I am having lots of fun playing her. I am currently on my way to Tanaris and made a stop for a few quests in Feralas. Yesterday she dinged 44 there. After Tanaris I’ll hopefully be able to go to Un’goro. I kind of like the jungle in the crater. The last character I leveled through there was Thalya of course and she has Skinning so it was rather lucrative to kill all the raptors.

Lakshmi’s professions are still a bit low. I just made it past 200 with both Mining and Jewelcrafting. At 44 that is low. She should be past 225 with both in my opinion. But I didn’t have time or gold to spare so far. She still needs tons of Mithril to get both professions to an acceptable level.

I wish I could play her a bit tonight. But the guild has been complaining about there being to few groups for 5-mans lately so if I play tonight I should make nice and tank some stuff for them. Or shouldn’t I? Should I spend my little playtime doing stuff I don’t feel like doing for people who play way more than I do? I often say no and I don’t expect anybody to help my twinks do any instances.

I am one of those solo-players – except when it works out to play together and everybody profits from it I do enjoy grouping a lot. Most often though only half a group really needs to do something and the rest goes along to help. Helping is only profitable on the meta-level of the game and sometimes not even then because it does not always make me feel better to help. Sometimes it just gets on my nerves that I cannot do what I want in that time.

That’s why I like leveling. While you still have experience to gain there is always a bit of profit: experience.

Weird observation: doing Scholomance with my druid solo is profitable. Helping a lowbie with the instance is not. Why is that?

If I go in there with Yashima, she can skip out on the mobs she does not think are profitable. I go straight to the mobs that drop Righteous Orbs. When I am alone all the drops are mine. I collect everything all the junk, cloth and green items. Anything that drops is mine. I get all the boss drops and while I cannot shard them, they still yield a bit of gold in the end.

If I go in with a lowbie, I need to take much greater care with pulls, I cannot skip any mob groups and I have to share the loot. The lowbie will want to do all the bosses and may need to go places I would have skipped. He’ll probably die on some groups and I’ll have to wait for him to continue. I cannot go my own pace and … while he is some help with the mobs surely he is also a burden.

So half the loot and much more stress when helping as opposed to just solo-ing. Why would I do it then? For a nice thanks. Sure. But not all the time and never for strangers.

Sometimes I want to play for my profit! So does probably everyone. You don’t advance in the game if you don’t look after your profits: loot, gold, crafting items – take your pick. Advancement is the core of the game. So if grouping provides less and less advancement the further you get in the game and re-doing stuff you have done before is not profitable at all, why do it?

So it does not come as a surprise that if grouping is only profitable for “fresh” content, for stuff that you have not seen before, that people are mostly not willing to help out on older stuff?

WoW Diary: What happened …

The last “major” happening in WoW for me was to complete Thalya’s and two guildies’ Kara Attunement on Tuesday with a really nice group. We did both Caverns of Time instances on one evening and everything went fine. Not one dead groupmember. The setup was nearly the same as on Friday for the Fragments. Warrior for tank, Druid as healer and Warlock … this time there were two Mages. My Hunter came home late and could not participate. The second Mage was only 69 but we still did fine.

I did the adds in Black Morast. It was the hardest thing I did with Thalya in any instance so far. I went through nearly 3 stacks of Water and at least 2 complete Manastones. I managed most of the time. The worst were the little groups of three. I have no points in Arcane. I think that would have been a good idea and more use of my pet and Icy Veins.

Besides that I did some dailies with Yashima and became Honored with the Netherwing which gave me a few more quests to do for them. I like that about the Netherwing Dailies. There seems so much more purpose to it than Skettis and Ogri’la. I think I’ll like the Sunwell stuff.

One more thing I did: I leveled Lakshmi to 31 and she’s going strong on 32. I was told by our guild’s Shamans to look out for Wirt’s Third Leg to carry at level 40. Two of them with a Crusader enchant. So right at this moment I am checking the Auctionhouse … again.

WoW Diary: Weekends

On Friday I had a most wonderful Shadowlab run with 4 other guildies. We got through it in 90 minutes with only one death. Group Setup: Warrior for tank, Druid for heal and Hunter, Warlock and Thalya (Mage) for DPS. It went so smooth and I had lots of fun. It’s just great to play with a group where you never have to worry about anyone not doing his job. The drops were lame though. Doesn’t help that I have the tailoring epics ;) Thalya is now up to about 600+ spell damage and about 60 Spell Hit.

After Shadowlab we decided to get the other 2 fragments with nearly the same group. So now I only need to do the two Caverns of Time runs for my prequest. So nice.

The rest of the week-end I did not play a lot. I leveled Lakshmi from 27 to 29 and crafted her some new clothes with my Leatherworker. Maybe I’ll get her to 30 tonight so she can wear some more of them. So far playing a (Enhancement) Shaman seems like a lot of action compared to the “Frostbolt! Frostbolt! Frostbolt! Oops Ice Lance! Frostbolt!” I’ve been doing with Thalya lately.

Well got to go back to cooking ;)

WoW Diary: Leveling

Ever since I finished my tailoring set, leveling has been very slow on Thalya. On the one hand I cannot wait to be 70 finally. On the other I am sick of leveling. Maybe I am only sick of Nagrand. I have only group quests left anyway so I am going to go elsewhere soon. Tenobaal helped me finish the hunting quests from Nesingwary yesterday. Maybe I’ll get a group for Durn and the Arena quest that would give a good push.

My plan is to get to 70 and then quest with Tenobaal through Netherstorm so we can make some Gold for our Epic Flyers. That’s my big big goal before WotLK: get us Epic traveling accomodations. Yashima already has her Swift Flight Form of course (she learned that Riding skill about a month after she turned 70) but Tenobaal is still struggling to get enough Gold for that and I want Thalya to be fast, too. Right now we’re both half way there: if you add up all the Gold on all my characters I have about 2.5k right now. I think I could make between 700-1k from questing at 70. I can make about 1k from the AH. After that I’ll do some Fishing and a few Herb collecting runs.

Today is the only day that both us tanks have time for WoW and so today is the only day we’ll get a group for Kara. I am unsure if I am willing to try and organize a run. I’d love to get beyond Curator again. The first bosses start to bore me. Sure they give Badges and I am not Exalted yet. There are a few items I would like to have as well. But still boring. The question is, do I want to spend 2-3 hours tonight playing Yashima or doing something else. Playing, not playing …

WoW Diary: 2.5 hours to Curator

For us this is a new record. To go in and down Curator in two and a half hours and that with a wipe on the Maiden and a wipe on Curator (my first wipe ever there^^) and a lot of other wild stuff. We had a fun group last night.

The usual tanking duo of a Prot-Palli and my Feral Bear we are used to. We had a new healer duo: Holy Priest and Resto Druid – the other runs were with Holy Palli and Resto Shaman. The Priest has healed Kara before but he’s a relatively ‘fresh’ alt of one of our Warlocks. The Resto is a main but I believe this is the very first time he has specced to Resto. Usually he is our crit-happy overnuking (dead) kitty (and sometimes tank) and not quite used to Druid healing yet, I think.

XXX whispers to you: “So is he announcing his heal crits as well?”
Me whispers to XXX: “Yes he is announcing his Regrowth crits. *g* and he still manages to pull aggro …”

They did very well though with some help from our Shadow Priest. For damage we had a deep Fire Mage, a deep Arcane Mage, 2 Warlocks (no idea about their spec except they do a lot of damage), a Marksmanship Hunter and the Shadow Priest.

The most incredible of all fights was Opera. For the 4th time in a row or so we got the Big Bad Wolf. We are now doing that with two tanks as we had some bad luck and our tank became the Red Riding Hood right in the beginning last time and died and we wiped. Last night every Red Riding Hood but one died. The two Mages were battle-rezzed and both died again. So we downed the Wolf with 5 deaths ;)

As an experiment I had Recount (a damage meter addon) running all night. I wanted to learn a bit by watching it.

Mostly I learned that I often feel pretty useless running as off-tank as I am. Why that is? Well my bear gear mitigates damage well and my cat gear dishes out the same. Now for every part of the instance except boss fights I have to decide whether I want to be prepared to save the day by being there as tank “just in case”. The cases when such is needed is rare but it happens. The Paladin can tank nearly all the mobs by himself especially with two Priests present. So for every fight I am in Bear gear I am pretty much on standby mode, because I don’t do a lot of damage and I don’t receive a lot unless something goes wrong. But way too often when I get into my kitty gear to dish out some damage finally, I end up in Bear because that’s the moment things go wrong. There are very few fights where I can concentrate on getting out all the damage I can as cat. Still I like being the flexible element in the group.

I also learned that with some critluck I can put out as much damage as the Mages for short fights. Mages and Warlocks do incredible amounts of damage … on the second try on Curator (nobody quite figured out what went wrong except one healer died early and in the end we ran out of healing mana) we downed him right after the second Evocation phase which is pretty quick for us. I believe I heard some people yelping about 12k crits in Teamspeak during the first Evocation *g*

The most interesting statistic Recount provides – I mostly watch on a per fight basis, as overall it is hard to determine why somebody did so little damage or healing – is “Activity”. I believe it just measures the amount of Abilities somebody uses (note to self: look that up) and I was not surprised to see the amounts of activity on different people. It proves a theory of mine about some people ;)

I got some nice healing shoulders from Curator ([Forest Wind Shoulderpads]) and our Paladin got his T4 token (no Rogues and Shamans last night). Tenobaal (the boy-friend *g*) got the crossbow from Attumen and was quite happy.

WoW Diary: Valentine’s Day

The last few days I spend quite a lot of time in game but I did not really play my druid. My latest achievments with her are making Exalted with the Skyguard and Ogri’la. From the Skyguard I got the [Skyguard Silvercross] for my trouble. From Ogri’La it could have been a pair of epic bracers – only I have better. I know these factions are mostly there for getting gold from Dailies but still it would have been nice to get something from turning Exalted with a faction – any faction.

Then I leveled my mage a bit, though I never even managed to get half that level I need to 68. Level 68/69 would be a good time to hit the battlegrounds for some Honor and marks. I do need a PvP Mount for her. I hate the Gnomish mounts so much and I would still need to turn in about a 100 Stacks of Runecloth to get Exalted with Darnassus.

Yesterday I did a lot of ‘Valentining’ hoping to get a little Peedlefeet. I am the sort of person who is hoping that the rumors about a special bag for minipets is true.

For my efforts so far Yashima got two of the [Romantic Picnic Basket], 2 of my alts also have the basket and I got another [Lovely Black Dress].

The most exciting thing I did for Valentine’s day in-game was to go and do Scholomance solo. Up to yesterday I had never done any of the Level 60 instances all by myself – what for anyway? I am not an Enchanter, so I do not farm shards. Getting gold is much quicker with Dailies and spend an hour or more just so I can say “I did it!” … no. Just a few days before we had been down to the Alchemy Lab to help out a young Warlock with his mount quest. I have done all these instances at Level 60 until I was truly tired of them. Somebody motivated me to got there. It was just an innocent (they never are but that’s another topic) item link in guild chat. So I went and died only once when I pulled Rattlegore with an add. It’s nice to be a tank :) The first of the minibosses dropped me what I had come to the instance for: [Bouquet of Red Roses]. Isn’t it lovely? I can wear that with my black dress.
