The Unintentional Break

As you may have noticed I am not blogging and I am also not playing. This is not a planned absence – it just happened. For me it is a sign that WoW has not taken over my life *g* it happens 2 or 3 times a year that I don’t play at all for a month or two because RL becomes too busy.

I have not played – not even done any auction, research s or transmutes as I usually do – since last year. So there was not much to blog about. The guild is busying itself in Naxramas without my help. It looks like they are doing quite fine. Sometimes they fill up with randoms or friends.

What I am currently doing is mostly wedding planning and a little vacation planning. We’re on a skiing vacation in Switzerland next week. The wedding takes up most of my time somehow. It takes more people than even an old-school raid, it takes much more planning, consumables and equipment than Naxramas 40-man back in the day (not that I ever set foot into Nax). But … I do have my “Robe” – I mean dress. But I am still missing a ring, a necklace, something to equip on the feet … and the head. I know which piece I want for my back but I have yet to farm the Badges for that.

You see it is like preparing for a raid ;)

And now back to work for 8 more hours.

Licensing

I am very sad.
I was very happy.

What happened?

I wrote an article that was so useful to people that it immediately got more hits than any other article on this blog. Joy!

I noticed however they all came from their rss readers or other blogs. Nobody got there through search results. So I submitted my blog to google after  a test confirmed that google does not really know my site.

I waited some time and then I did the test again with that popular article. What do I see? No search results pointing to me. One to MassiveBlips which is fine with me as they link back to my site and only quote, not copy though I would prefer to see a direct hit. The sad thing was the other result: Some other “blog” took my content without even attributing it to me. This has happened to me before. I produce some guide and people steal it. That is the reason my herbing + alchemy guides have yet to be updated and published on the blog.

The page I am talking of is mostly full of copied content from people like me, Aurik (they took your nice Winter Veil article) or even WoWInsider … I have not looked further. I am angry about this. They even have a funny disclaimer page full of mumbo jumbo legalese just in case someone wants to complain about them copying stuff which clearly shows they know what they are doing (the page is full of gold selling adds). If you want to complain you need to provide them with the following:

A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed;

Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site;

Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material;

Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact you, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail;

A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and

A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

So there it is.

When moving my blog here from Blogger I forgot one thing: Creative Commons. It might just have stopped them. Or not. As of today all this blog is licensed under a creative commons license again:

1st Blog Anniversary & Wrathgate

A year ago I wrote

I have started several blogs and do have a non-gaming blog as well. Ever since I started playing WoW in early 2005 I wanted to have a WoW related blog. So this is it.

I wasn’t sure if it would work out, but one year later I have over 150 posts on the blog and even a few regular readers :D

I am still playing the game I have enjoyed for nearly four years (Euro launch was in Februrary) now and with Wrath it’s more fun than ever.

Yay! I made a few fireworks with my new DK Engineer and I’ll celebrate in-game with a few drinks.

Apropos more fun than ever. As many people have noticed the quest content has improved massively and we finally completed the already legendary quest chain on the Wrathgate a few days ago and it was as good as people said it would be. More below the image and after the cut.

Wyrmrest Temple, View from a Dragon, From Screenshots 2008

Attention: maybe there are a few spoilers on the most epic quest chain currently in the game below the cut. Read on if you can take it. You have been warned!

Blog Feature: Guides

Many blog writers like to write guides for others – I am no exception.

Wether mine are any good is not for me to decide. But to make it easier to see what kind of stuff I wrote that I think may have lasting value (at least until Wrath hits), I made a guides page: see my pretty new page full of guides.

I also made a new Characters overview page from which the single character pages can be reached: Characters Overview.

Subscriber Loss

After moving my blog from http://www.delusions.de/wow to http://wow.delusions.de I forgot to update my feedster urls and managed to drop from 160-something to a mere 13 subscribers

:(

*hits self on head for stupidity*

Blog Moved again

I moved the blog again, but only to its own subdomain :)

Before I was residing at http://www.delusions.de/wow now the blog is at http://wow.delusions.de

I already moved the feedburner feeds and I put a redirect in place so nobody should notice at all.

Character Pages

As seen on another blog I have now made a page for each of my “named” characters. My hordes of alts will have to remain unnamed until I decide to make them one of my official and guilded characters.

Here are the three pages:

I’ll try to make these pages a bit more interesting when I have time or play more.

Moved my blog

If you are reading this then you have probably subscribed to my feedster feed and I managed to accomplish the move without too much of a bother to my readers.

The original Yashima plays at blogger has been too slow lately and since I just cleaned up my account on this server and all my other wordpress installations I thought I’d give it a go again.

There are a few things still to do for me, most notably the banner and getting a grip on the blogroll. But I think I managed to import everything from blogger.

One big nicety is that from now on I have much more control over features and the current version of wordpress already supports gravatars out of the box. So if you have one … don’t hesitate to use it. All old comments lost their emails adresses though – since I have full database access that should not be a permanent problem ;)

The stupidest thing so far is that my blogger tags were imported as categories in wordpress. I will have to think about fixing the categories/tags thingy in this new installation. Update: I managed to convert the categories to tags with a wordpress feature I found. Just look in your admin panel: Manage > Import > Categories to Tags Converter.

Also up is yet another move once I get the admin to create a fitting subdomain. That is the one thing I cannot do myself on this server.

So right now I am doing with: http://www.delusions.de/wow

What I really want to have is: http://yashima-plays.delusions.de
