Graphics Update eats Druid

Since 3.0.2 we have a new graphics feature in the game: Shadows.

Together with a few more enhancements this one is eating up my frames per second like nothing else before (though I would still argue the Glow Effect is worse). It’s good to see these improvements. I like the WoW graphics style but a little polish is always good.

Shadows aren’t only for making the game prettier however.

A couple days ago I was in the Bone Wastes in Terrokar leveling Yáshimá when I noticed an ominous shape on the floor that suspiciously looked like a big raven. Looking up I verified that indeed there was a Druid flying above me. I also noted that it was a Horde Druid. I ran back to the caravan because I know there are a couple of guards there.

He must have seen that I noticed him. He landed and we had a little Moonkin dance together. I thought: Moonkin don’t kill each other!

I was so wrong.

Moments later he went up into the air again and in the blink of an eye I felt Moonfire laser beams coming down on me. So much for playing nice. Oh well that is what PvP servers are for. Still I was wondering where the laser had come from.

After a couple of minutes of running back to my body I sat in the camp eating a few leftover Halloween sweets. I was nearly ready to go questing again when I heard that ominous sound again and felt Moonfire rip through me. Oh thanks … you up there on the column, where the guards can’t get you. Quite brave you being about 4 levels above me and probably much better equipped. Come down so I can get you back!

After being killed twice in a row I followed my usual procedure for such an event and relogged. Too bad: when Yashima arrived at the scene of the carnage to confuse the ganker by being a Moonkin suddenly 4 levels higher with nearly the same name (and guild of course), he was already gone.

So much for Shadows …. gankers everywhere beware!

That reminds me of cat and mouse play. When I was a child there was an outdoor cat that I would feed. I found him one day playing with a mouse before it killed it.

I always save the name of the ganker and if I see them again it is kill on sight. It’s the only time I do something like that. ;-)
