Too much to do

I am a casual player. Usually. But right now with 2 big events going on there’s simply too much to do in-game. Achievements to earn, bosses to down, quests to finish …

Since the pre-Wrath event is a one of a kind event I want to take part in it. Because it will never come back. So I ran to Kara with the guild last night to down Prince Tenris Murkblood. I went out to kill some undead and I am very sorry I missed out on most of the zombie fun.

It’s great to have all these things to do.

But I am a bit sad that we’re having all these wonderful things happening at the same time: Halloween event and pre-Wrath event is just too much for someone like me. *Sniff* I would have liked to do it all.

Tweaking the UI

Current State of my UI, from Screenshots 2008

Last night I played my favorite WoW mini-game. I spend a couple hours fiddling with my UI. I didn’t manage to take a screen yet. It does not look so much different.

Ever since the patch introduced a myriad of new abilities to nearly all my characters and destroyed a select few of my addons (myBindings2 or TradeSkillInfo anyone?) I’ve not been quite content with my UI. So I spent time researching alternatives.

I am also looking into quick & easy-to-configure mods that take up little memory and screenspace to help Tenobaal get back into the game with a neat-but-easy custom UI for his Hunter.

What I managed to do last night was reduce the memory usage of my UI by at least 50%. My loading times are still way up there however and I am going to look into that next, because memory usage is the smaller problem of the two. There are about 8-10 of my mods that use 1MB of memory or more and I’ve considered each of them and decided they are keepers, for example ArkInventory and FuBar (still no StatBlock, Fortress or ButtonBin for me). For others I have found smaller substitutes.

The biggest change right now is that I dropped Quartz for some obscure castbar addon and exchanged Pitbull for oUF.

I’ll post an update list of my addons, a screen and more details on my new UI later.

Btw: anybody knows a tiny addon that will skip over the “If you loot this it will be bound to you” dialogue? Update: found something on WoWI that goes bei the name of “AutoLootConfirm:)

Random Pet

Before the patch hit and before I was on vacation – I am back btw ;) – I was busy collecting Companions or “Vanity Pets”. Now that I have so many and they are all accessible all the time I want to have a Companion with me always. So I made a handy little macro to summon a random pet:

/run CallCompanion('CRITTER',random(1,GetNumCompanions('CRITTER')))

The guild reported that it works I have not yet tested it myself.

Introducing: Ifirnia

Ifirnia is my level 38 Nightelf Huntress. She is always accompanied by her cat Pünktchen (engl: Dotty) whom she tamed at level 10 in Teldrassil.

I’ve created Ifirnia about two years ago and played her to level 18. We made a few Warsong runs with level 19 toons in the guild – that’s how she came to be a “Private”. Even the lowest PvP rank now is something special.

Then I stopped playing her for a long time. I was never very good with pet classes.

From Screenshots 2008

Every once in a while I would take her out and level a bit when I wanted a bit of quiet “chat-free” playtime. So she came to be level 28 or so.

Then I decided to drop Leatherworking and learn Mining instead – making her a gather character. I took the time to configure my UI for her and get me some hunter mods (right now: Creature Comforts, Nudge and Nomnom, Autobar does the rest). All of a sudden she was a gold maker. The final push to playing her more was when I started reading BRK.

She easily made it to level 36, but then she to returned to unplayed status: Since she spent a lot of time in the AH auctioning off her Ores and Leather, she turned into my bank character for a few months.

Now that my other “named” (= characters in the guild) characters all have reached level 60+ and leveling has become slow for the two remaining non-70s, I wanted another guild character for easy play.

It was a choice between my little Shadow Priestess, the Hunter, the 3rd Druid (the Moonkin!) and the Warlock. I already have a high level caster and several characters that can heal, plus the Priestess is currently my herb stash – so “no” for the Priestess. Moonkin rocks, but two high level Druids is enough for now – “no” for the Druid as well. So that left me with two pet classes. I chose the Hunter because again the Warlock is a caster and Hunter is not. I am also looking forward to the changes coming with 3.x to the Hunters. The Warlock on the other hand is an engineer and I don’t feel like doing another profession right now.

Ifirnia also has some nice stuff in her bank waiting for her: two nice guns and an epic axe. I prefer bows and crossbows to guns. But what can you do? When the Gods of Loot give you stuff, you take it.

So: Welcome Ifirnia to the World of Blogging!

Great Inscription Guide

Via Toomannyannas I found BananaShoulders really nice Inscription Guide.

Quoting the shopping list from Toomanyannas:

  • 150x Earthroot, Peacebloom, or Silverleaf
  • 60x Briarthorn, Bruiseweed, Mageroyal, Stranglekelp, or Swiftthistle
  • 150x Grave Moss, Kingsblood, Liferoot, or Wild Steelbloom
  • 140x Fadeleaf, Goldthorn, Khadgar’s Whisker, or Wintersbite
  • 210x Arthas’ Tears, Blindweed, Firebloom, Ghost Mushroom, Gromsblood, Purple Lotus, or Sungrass
  • 350x Dreamfoil, Golden Sansam, Icecap, Mountain Silversage, Plaguebloom
  • 360x Any Outland herbs

So I think I am good. Bananashoulders gives the hint that I missed when trying to level: 15 Fiery Inks to make 15 Fine Vellum gets on to the magic number of 250 from which you can level on with the next set of herbs.

But I sure hope that it is going to be less than 350 of the herbs that give Silvery pigments, because I am nowhere near that number … that’s nearly 18 stacks of those herbs. I might have maybe 10 or 12.
